Longtime Call of Duty Veteran Greg Reisdorf Departs Sledgehammer Games
After a remarkable 15-year tenure, Greg Reisdorf, Call of Duty's Multiplayer Creative Director, has announced his departure from Sledgehammer Games. His contributions spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with the development of Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.
Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, saw him play a pivotal role in shaping the multiplayer experience across various installments. His involvement extended beyond Sledgehammer's own projects, encompassing collaborations with Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Raven Software on titles including Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
In a recent Twitter thread, Reisdorf detailed his career highlights, reminiscing about his work on Modern Warfare 3, including memorable sequences like Soap's gurney scene in "Blood Brothers." He also discussed his contributions to Advanced Warfare, navigating the complexities of its "Pick 13" system and the introduction of features like boost jumps and tactical reloads. He openly shared his reservations about the "Pick 13" system, believing that killstreaks should remain distinct rewards, separate from essential loadout choices.
His reflections extended to Call of Duty: WW2, where he addressed the initial controversy surrounding the class-restricted weapon system, highlighting the swift reversal of this decision post-launch. His work on Vanguard included the design of classic three-lane maps, a style he personally favored over strictly realistic military simulations.
Finally, Reisdorf highlighted his leadership in the development of Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer, including the recreation of beloved Modern Warfare 2 maps with subtle nods to the original, such as Shepherd's skull in the Rust map. As Creative Director, he oversaw the creation of over 20 live season modes, including the popular Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes.
Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Call of Duty's history. However, his concluding remarks suggest a continued commitment to the gaming industry, leaving fans eager to witness his future endeavors.
