MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed a heartwarming policy: no harm will come to any canine characters in the upcoming game. Let's delve into this decision and other exciting game details.
No Dogs Will Be Harmed in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Indy's a Dog Lover, Says MachineGames' Creative Director
While video games often feature violence against animals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle breaks this trend. From Nazi dogs in Wolfenstein to rabid wolves in Resident Evil 4, animal antagonists are commonplace. But MachineGames is taking a different route.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," Creative Director Jens Andersson told IGN. Despite the action-packed nature of Indy's adventures, the developers have ensured that while Indy can battle human foes, his interactions with dogs are entirely non-lethal. This marks a significant shift from their previous work, like the Wolfenstein series.
Andersson explained, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways. We have dogs in the game, but you won't hurt them. You'll scare them away instead."
Launching December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC (with a tentative PS5 release in Spring 2025), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Indy's quest begins with the theft of artifacts from Marshall College, leading him on a globe-trotting adventure from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip is both a traversal tool and a weapon, allowing him to disarm and subdue human enemies as he navigates open-world-inspired environments. And rest assured, dog lovers: according to the developers, no furry friends will feel the sting of Indy's whip in this adventure.
