Following the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Rocksteady Studios has announced further layoffs. These job cuts, impacting programming and art teams, follow September's reduction of the QA staff by approximately 50%.
The game's disappointing sales, reported by Warner Bros. in February, directly contributed to these staffing decisions. The initial layoffs in September affected the QA department, reducing its size from 33 to 15 employees. The recent round of cuts extended beyond QA, impacting programmers and artists. Several affected employees, speaking anonymously to Eurogamer, confirmed their dismissals. Warner Bros. has yet to publicly comment on these developments.
This isn't isolated to Rocksteady. WB Games Montreal, responsible for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, also experienced layoffs in December, primarily within their quality assurance team supporting Suicide Squad's post-launch content.
The final DLC, featuring Deathstroke as a playable character, launched December 10th. While Rocksteady plans one last update for Suicide Squad later this month, the studio's future projects remain uncertain. The game's commercial failure has cast a shadow on Rocksteady's otherwise successful track record of critically acclaimed DC titles.
