Application Description

Journey to Valhalla with Hnefatafl, the ancient Viking board game! Predating chess, Hnefatafl and its many variations were played across medieval Europe. Two armies clash: the invading black force seeks to capture the white king, while the white army defends and attempts the king's escape. This game, often called the Game of the Vikings, evokes historical narratives such as the Muscovite invasion of Sweden or Viking raids on Britain, but the central conflict remains the same – the king's fate.

Despite its simple rules, Hnefatafl offers deep strategic possibilities, rewarding tactical prowess. Outmaneuver your opponent, set traps, and force a surrender. Will you claim victory and the king's treasure? Or will the loyal guards safeguard their king's escape?

Enjoy custom game variations (over 200,000 possibilities!) in both online and offline modes. Play across iOS, Windows, and Linux using a single account. Asynchronous multiplayer lets you play at your convenience.
