It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though the latest addition comes in an unexpected form. During today's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Koei Tecmo is developing a new entry in the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Excitingly, it's set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment marks another addition to the Hyrule Warriors franchise, this time featuring characters from the ancient history sections of Tears of the Kingdom. Fans will be thrilled to see Zelda, alongside Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game delves into Zelda's adventures during the events of Tears of the Kingdom after she journeyed back in time. Here, she allies with the last of the Zonai, including Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the impressive abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding magic, Rauru with his unique sword-spear hybrid, and brief glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The latter served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and offered a narrative twist that was both surprising and engaging. Given that Age of Calamity received a 9/10 from us, praised as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish," expectations are high for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment to similarly captivate fans with its storytelling and gameplay.
