The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Initially known as Project Maverick, this game was originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, following an internal review, Ubisoft decided to make significant changes to its development. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to reallocate most of the project's resources to Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The final decision to abandon the multiplayer component came with the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.
The responsibility for the rebooted project has now been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. Almost the entire original development team has been reassigned to work on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in an atmosphere filled with tension and desperation, where time is the primary adversary. The game's storyline centers around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult that conducts horrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players must race against time to rescue their loved ones within a stringent in-game time limit of 72 hours, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint adds a layer of intensity and urgency to the gameplay.
A notable feature of Far Cry 7 is a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This mechanic not only intensifies the urgency but also adds pressure, compelling players to make quick and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is set to offer a distinctive gaming experience where every second is critical, and every decision can lead to significant outcomes.
