In an insightful interview with Wccftech, the developers at Eclipse Glow Games discussed the creative vision behind Tides of Annihilation. This upcoming game taps into the rich tapestry of Arthurian myths, setting the stage in a post-apocalyptic London. Dive deeper to uncover the game's innovative concept and future plans.
Tides of Annihilation Aims For A Western Audience
The Central Concept Of Arthurian Myths And Knights
During Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games, a China-based studio, shared their strategic approach to Tides of Annihilation with Wccftech. The game's development was influenced by Tencent, their financial backer, who set different expectations for this project compared to their other venture, Black Myth: Wukong. While Black Myth: Wukong was tailored for the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was designed with a Western audience in mind, leading to the choice of Arthurian legends as its thematic core. The game's producer envisioned a narrative centered around knights, which evolved into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, Tides of Annihilation follows the journey of Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor amidst an Outworld invasion. The game blends an alternate modern setting with fantasy elements drawn directly from Arthurian myths, creating a unique and immersive world.
Devil May Cry-inspired Combat And Over 30 Bosses
Action-RPG enthusiasts will recognize the combat style of Tides of Annihilation as reminiscent of the classic Devil May Cry series. The developers confirmed this influence, noting that the game's combat is "definitely more like Devil May Cry," but with an added feature of difficulty selection to cater to a broader audience. The controls are designed to be accessible, allowing players of varying skill levels to enjoy the action.
Players can customize their combat style with four different weapons and over ten Knights to choose from as sidekicks. Gwendolyn discovers her ability to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table, who join her in battling through the ruins of London to uncover the truth behind the invasion. With over 30 unique bosses to challenge, the game promises engaging and demanding gameplay.
Plans Of Creating An Anthology
Eclipse Glow Games also expressed their ambition to expand Tides of Annihilation into an anthology series. They aim to explore different settings and mythologies, potentially featuring a new protagonist for each installment. The core concept of an Outworld invasion would remain consistent, tying the series together. The success of the first game is crucial for realizing this vision, as it would pave the way for further titles and mythologies to be brought to life.
Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a tentative release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will embark on an action-adventure journey with Gwendolyn, as she navigates the challenges of a post-apocalyptic world and the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
