NieR: Automata boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their usefulness throughout the game. While upgrading is readily available at the Resistance Camp, acquiring the necessary resources, particularly Beast Hides, can be challenging. This guide details efficient farming strategies.
Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar, randomly spawning in specific areas. These animals are easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons (unlike machines' black icons). They tend to avoid players and robots. Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their lower spawn rate.
Moose and boar are exclusively found in the game's ruined city and forest sections. Their reaction to player attacks depends on the level difference: lower-level animals flee, while higher-level ones may attack or become aggressive upon proximity. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters with similarly leveled or higher-level animals difficult.
Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.
Wildlife, unlike consistently spawning enemies, requires strategic hunting during exploration. Respawn mechanics mirror those of machines:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a significant distance respawns wildlife in previously visited areas.
- Key story events can trigger the respawn of nearby wildlife.
There's no guaranteed "farm" for Beast Hides. Consistently hunting wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins generally provides sufficient hides. The drop rate is reasonably high, ensuring you won't need excessive quantities at any given time, provided you manage weapon upgrades effectively.
