World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 Adding Two New Types of Races

World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces two thrilling new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races within the new Undermine zone.

Undermine, the Goblin capital, prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate its subterranean streets using the customizable D.R.I.V.E. vehicle, offering a faster alternative to Skyriding. Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races fully utilize this high-speed ground transportation.

Complementing the ground-based races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, offering a unique blend of existing flight mechanics. Unlike Steady flight, players cannot stop mid-air; however, unlike Skyriding, they maintain momentum and altitude. Ring collection boosts speed, but increased velocity reduces maneuverability, adding a layer of strategic challenge.

Key Features:

  • No Skyriding in Undermine: The absence of Skyriding in Undermine necessitates the introduction of these new race types.
  • Achievements: Both race types offer achievements for completing each course with Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Reverse versions of all races are also included. Unlike some Skyriding races, advanced or challenge courses are not currently present.
  • Race Variety: The patch includes a diverse selection of races:
    • Skyrocket: Skyrocketing Sprint, The Heaps Leap, Scrapshop Shot, Casino Cruise, Rags to Riches Run, Sandy Scuttle.
    • Breakneck: Breakneck Bolt, Junkyard Jaunt.

Community Reception:

Initial player feedback on Skyrocket races has been varied. While some anticipate exciting gameplay, others express concerns about the jetpack's perceived stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. With the patch still under development, further refinements are expected before its anticipated February release.
