Unveiled gifts and Sony's updated policy for PSN on PC

Sony's recent PC gaming policies have sparked considerable outrage among gamers. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, coupled with regional service limitations, has restricted the availability of modern releases.

However, Sony has announced some policy adjustments. While the concept of PSN tethering on PC isn't entirely abandoned, several relaxations are forthcoming.

PSN tethering will become optional for the following games:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players who choose to maintain PSN tethering will receive the following in-game bonuses:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Black Bear armor set, the "Lost Things" chest at the game's start, and a resource pack.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In a November investor call, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged the backlash against PSN connection requirements. He emphasized the importance of these requirements for maintaining security and order, referencing service-based games. However, he failed to clarify how mandating PSN accounts enhances security in single-player experiences like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

The gaming landscape has changed.
