Hyper Light Breaker offers players a rich array of options, including a diverse selection of characters known as Breakers. These characters are tasked with the monumental challenge of combating the Abyss King, each bringing their own unique playstyles to the fray.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward, yet the game doesn't explicitly guide players on how to do so. This guide aims to clarify the process and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of the game. As of the initial release, only two characters can be unlocked, but we will keep this guide updated as more Breakers become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which are exclusively dropped by the Crowns, the game's bosses. Before facing these formidable foes, you'll need to gather Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. These Prisms are scattered across the map, marked by a golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. By spending your Abyss Stones, you'll gain access to the new character. While the game features nine characters in total, only two can be unlocked in the early access version, and the method to unlock them is consistent: collect Abyss Stones. It remains to be seen if this method will apply to unlocking the remaining characters.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker starts with a SyCom, a crucial item that not only sets the base stats but also defines the core perk, thus shaping the character's playstyle. These SyComs are the primary factors in deciding which character to choose. Below is a detailed look at each character and their unique playstyles.
Vermillion
Vermillion is the initial character players encounter, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom by default. This SyCom enhances his capabilities for ranged combat, providing a balanced stat package. A critical hit with his Rail shots guarantees the next shot will also crit, making him highly effective from a distance.
For players who prefer close-quarters combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which rewards perfect parries with increased armor. This SyCom offers superior defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice for those who like to get up close and personal.
Lapis
Lapis, much like Vermillion, is initially geared toward Rail combat with her Lightweaver SyCom, which boosts Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. However, Lapis distinguishes herself with the Warrior SyCom, which amplifies her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis can be devastating with either SyCom, but the Warrior SyCom significantly enhances her lethality over time. With enough upgrades, Lapis can surpass other Breakers in raw stats, turning her into a formidable powerhouse.
Goro
Goro specializes in ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up his Blade skill charging while shooting at targets. He can also unlock the Sniper SyCom, which directly increases his critical hit rate.
Goro fits into the category of a ranged glass cannon, boasting higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis. However, lacking a defensive SyCom, he requires skilled play to maximize his effectiveness. For players who can master his playstyle, Goro proves to be an exceptionally powerful fighter.
