Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn, if you played exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing buff: +1 Power to all other DoomBots and Doom. Crucially, this bonus applies to regular Doctor Doom as well.

The strategy revolves around playing one card per turn. Early deployment of Doom 2099 maximizes DoomBot spawns, potentially yielding a 17-power card (or more with early game plays like Magik).

However, there are drawbacks. The random placement of DoomBots can be unpredictable, potentially hindering your strategy. Furthermore, Enchantress (especially with recent buffs) completely negates the DoomBot power boosts.

Top Doctor Doom 2099 Decks

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn mechanic synergizes well with Spectrum-style Ongoing decks. Here's an example:

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught. (Copyable list available on Untapped)

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 placement via Psylocke or turn 3 Electro sets up massive power generation. Alternatively, if Doom 2099 isn't played early, the deck can pivot to a traditional Doctor Doom strategy, leveraging Spectrum buffs. Cosmo protects against Enchantress.

Another effective approach utilizes a Patriot-style strategy:

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. (Copyable list available on Untapped)

Again, this is a cost-effective deck with only Doom 2099 as a Series 5 card. Early game plays focus on Mister Sinister and Brood, transitioning to Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom. Zabu provides early-game discounts for 4-cost cards. The deck allows strategic skipping of DoomBot spawns to accommodate powerful late-game plays. However, it's vulnerable to Enchantress, and Super Skrull is included to counter other Doom 2099 decks.

Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While the accompanying Spotlight Cache cards (Daken and Miek) are less impressive, Doom 2099 himself is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and deck-building flexibility make him a meta staple. Use Collector's Tokens if available, but don't hesitate to obtain him. He's poised to be one of Marvel Snap's most impactful cards.
