Top 10 LitRPG Books for 2025

Author : Sophia Mar 13,2025

Reading is my absolute favorite pastime. While I enjoy video games and TV, nothing quite compares to immersing myself in a captivating book series. My reading journey began with the magical world of Harry Potter, branching out to explore sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, and even non-fiction. However, my true literary passion ignited upon discovering the LitRPG genre—a whirlwind romance that quickly became my sole focus. If you're curious to explore this exciting world with me, here are some of my top LitRPG recommendations.

A fantastic advantage of these books is their availability through Kindle Unlimited. Given the length of some series, a subscription offers significant savings. Audible subscriptions provide an alternative listening experience for those who prefer it.

What is LitRPG?

For newcomers, LitRPG stands for literary role-playing game. The stories incorporate RPG elements similar to video games. While some feature characters literally transported into games, the genre is far broader. All LitRPG includes game-like elements, but not all mirror video games precisely. The books below all feature leveling systems and power hierarchies the protagonists must navigate through experience. I've included a mix of progression fantasy and LitRPG, offering similar experiences.

Fast-paced, action-packed, and brimming with witty dialogue, *He Who Fights with Monsters* boasts a unique leveling system and memorable characters. Following Jason Asano's journey into a magical world, this fantasy comedy is a must-read. The series consistently delivers, making each installment as enjoyable as the first.

Less traditional than others on this list, *The Path of Ascension* presents a rich universe built around magical dungeon portals ("rifts") and powerful immortals. Matt's journey, marked by an initially underwhelming talent, showcases his perseverance and growth. The character development, particularly in books two and three, solidifies its place among my favorites.

3. Dungeon Crawler Carl

A non-stop adventure featuring an unconventional protagonist and an endearing feline companion, Princess Donut (arguably the true star!), *Dungeon Crawler Carl* offers engaging action, witty lines, and satisfying skill progression. Even the seventh book, released in 2024, maintains the series' initial charm.

4. Unsouled (Cradle Series)
