Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
TennoCon 2024 delivered a massive surprise: Warframe: 1999, a game-changing update transporting players to a retro-futuristic 1999. Get ready for a thrilling ride through a Techrot-infested city teetering on the brink of a Y2K apocalypse. Prepare for a new level of style and customization, too.
Before the main event arrives in Winter 2024, a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launches in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved Warframe character, this quest sets the stage for the 1999 adventure and introduces Sevatgoth Prime and their unique weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 Earth, where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus. The setting? Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city twisted by Techrot. Navigate this corrupted landscape using the new Atomicyles – high-speed vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Command a team of six heroes, the Hex, each wielding a Protoframe Warframe that reveals the human form beneath.
The Hex team boasts an impressive voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through a nostalgic instant messaging system – and maybe even score a New Year's kiss!
Prepare for a showdown with On-lyne, a 90s boy band infected by the Technocyte Coda and led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," is available on major streaming platforms.
Fashion takes center stage with significant upgrades to the Warframe fashion system. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts and seamlessly switch between them. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System, complete with fully voiced dialogue during combat and interactions with the Operator.
Beyond the core update, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE animation studio on a Warframe: 1999 anime short, releasing later this year. Additionally, high-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (coming early 2025) are now available.
Warframe: 1999 is set to launch this Winter. Download Warframe now from the App Store and prepare for the ultimate retro-futuristic adventure.
