Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly heading to a galaxy far, far away, bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Levy's Star Wars film is in negotiations with Gosling to star. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script finalized last year. He's re-teaming with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter of This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both Levy-directed films.
Plot details remain under wraps, with no information on Gosling's role or the film's era within the Star Wars timeline. What is known is that the story is unrelated to the Skywalker Saga and is intended as a standalone film, rather than the start of a trilogy.
The involvement of Gosling has reportedly accelerated the project's timeline. While Levy was previously attached to direct a boy band film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, THR suggests that Gosling's commitment would make the Star Wars movie Levy's next project, with production potentially beginning this fall.
