Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Developer Insists 'Everything We Have Talked About Is Still in Development'

Saber Interactive has firmly stated that all its previously announced projects remain in active development, despite the lack of updates on major titles such as the much-anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake. Following the recent announcement of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Saber's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, took to Twitter to reassure fans that the studio's entire lineup is still on track.

"Saber Interactive stands as one of the largest independent developers globally," Willits stated. "We are currently engaged in developing numerous games across a variety of genres. Every project we've announced is still in development. We will provide updates on our upcoming games as soon as we have exciting news to share."

Willits' statement particularly resonates with the KOTOR remake, a project that has remained shrouded in mystery since its announcement in 2021. The remake has seen multiple developers, paused and resumed development, and after four years, has yet to be released. In April 2024, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch confirmed that the KOTOR project was retained during the company's separation from Embracer Group and is still actively being developed.

"It's evident that we are working on this," Karch said at the time. "It's been widely reported in the media. What I can assure you is that the game is alive and well, and we're committed to surpassing consumer expectations."

Willits’ recent statement, made almost a year after Karch's, reaffirms this commitment. However, fans are still left without any new visuals or updates beyond the initial announcement trailer for the KOTOR remake.

In addition to the KOTOR remake, Saber Interactive has a robust pipeline of other games in development, including titles slated for release in 2025 such as John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Jurassic Park Survival, though specific release dates have yet to be announced. The studio is also working on a new Turok game and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender project.

With the addition of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 to their roster, Saber Interactive continues to expand its portfolio. For more details on potential chapters and enemy factions in Space Marine 3, be sure to check out IGN's dedicated article.
