The eagerly awaited film adaptation of the acclaimed 2012 video game, *Sleeping Dogs*, which was confirmed to be canceled earlier this month, may yet have a new lease on life, thanks to Marvel star Simu Liu. According to a report from Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan's plea on X/Twitter, expressing his commitment to reviving the project. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he stated, sparking renewed interest and hope among fans of the franchise.

Originally announced in 2017, the film was set to feature Donnie Yen in the lead role. However, after a year of silence, the project seemed to vanish, and just a few weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed its cancellation. In a heartfelt statement, Yen shared his dedication to the project, revealing the personal investment he made in terms of time, effort, and even his own funds. "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen explained. "I waited for years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?"

The possibility of bringing *Sleeping Dogs* to the big screen seemed to be over until Liu, known for his role in *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*, responded to a random social media post. While it remains uncertain whether Liu will successfully acquire the rights or manage to get the project moving, his involvement has reignited excitement and anticipation.

*Sleeping Dogs* was initially released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, and it follows the gripping narrative of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. The game received widespread acclaim, earning an impressive 8/10 in IGN's review. Despite its success, no sequels were developed, making the potential film adaptation even more significant for fans.
