Silent Hill 2 Remake Developer Bloober Signs Deal for Another Game for Konami — Could It Be More Silent Hill?

Bloober Team, fresh off the success of their Silent Hill 2 remake, has announced a new partnership with Konami to develop a game based on one of Konami's iconic IPs. While neither company has revealed the title or franchise, Bloober's expertise in horror and the phenomenal sales of the Silent Hill 2 remake (2 million copies sold!) strongly suggest another entry in the Silent Hill universe is likely. Konami will act as both publisher and rights holder for this mystery project.

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno shared this statement:

Konami, a legendary name in gaming, sought a partner to revitalize one of their most iconic franchises—Silent Hill. Bloober Team was chosen for our expertise in horror and atmospheric storytelling. In 2021, we signed a partnership agreement, and in October 2022, we announced the Silent Hill 2 remake during the official Silent Hill Transmission livestream.

The remake's success—an 86/100 on Metacritic and 88/100 on OpenCritic, along with awards like IGN Japan's Game of the Year 2024 and the IGN Community Awards' Best Horror Game of the Year—demonstrated our ability to capture the original's atmosphere and depth while incorporating innovative elements.

This success built trust, leading to this new agreement. It aligns with our strategic plan for expanding our internal development within a first-party framework. Our collaboration with Konami has been incredibly productive, and the Silent Hill 2 remake speaks for itself. We've shared knowledge and experience to create high-quality productions. While details are limited, we're confident fans will be thrilled with our collaboration. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right.

The Silent Hill 2 remake, released October 8, 2024, on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam (with no Xbox Series X|S version announced yet), sold one million copies within days. This potentially makes it the fastest-selling Silent Hill game ever, though Konami hasn't officially confirmed this. IGN's review awarded it an 8/10, praising it as a "great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror."
