Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a thrilling live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the masterminds behind the successful Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in negotiations to write, showrun, and produce this much-anticipated reboot for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers, aims to breathe new life into the franchise, catering to both a new generation of viewers and keeping the loyal fanbase engaged. The project promises to reinvent the beloved series while maintaining its core essence.

The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, which debuted in the '90s, captured the hearts of countless children with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs that could combine into a colossal fighting machine. The show became a cultural phenomenon, leaving an indelible mark on its young audience.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise along with other brands from Saban Properties in a deal valued at $522 million. Brian Goldner, Hasbro's chairman and chief executive officer at the time, highlighted the "tremendous upside potential" of the Power Rangers brand. He emphasized the opportunities for expansion across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and global retail.

This acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the Power Rangers. Despite plans for a series of sequels, the film's poor box office performance led to the cancellation of those projects, prompting Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

Hasbro's ambitious plans don't stop with Power Rangers. The company is also developing other high-profile projects, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also in development at Netflix, and a cinematic universe based on Magic: The Gathering. These initiatives showcase Hasbro's commitment to expanding its iconic brands across multiple media platforms.
