Pokémon, a global media powerhouse and Nintendo mainstay since the Game Boy era, boasts hundreds of captivating creatures to collect in games and trading cards. Each generation expands this vibrant universe, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception, hosting a diverse collection of Pokémon titles.
With Nintendo's Switch 2 announcement confirming backward compatibility, you can confidently purchase any existing Switch Pokémon game, knowing it will work on the newer console. Below, we list every Pokémon game released on the Nintendo Switch, along with details on upcoming Switch 2 releases.
How Many Pokémon Games Are on Nintendo Switch?
Twelve Pokémon games have graced the Nintendo Switch, encompassing mainline entries from generations 8 and 9, plus numerous spin-offs. For this list, dual-version mainline games are counted as single releases. Nintendo Switch Online titles are excluded, but you can find that list further down.
Note: 2024 saw no new Pokémon game release (the last mainline title was two years prior). The Pokémon Company instead launched Pokémon TCG Pocket, a successful free-to-play mobile card game. While not on Switch, it's a worthwhile option for Pokémon fans.
What Pokémon Game Should You Get in 2024?
In 2024, I recommend Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While not a traditional Pokémon experience (that's what older games offer), it injects action-RPG elements, providing fresh open areas, enhanced encounter control, and polished gameplay.
