Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokémon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Pokémon enthusiasts anticipating news about Switch 2 Pokémon titles during the upcoming Pokémon Presents on February 27th may be disappointed. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, it appears the Pokémon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the foreseeable future.

The February 27th Pokémon Presents will likely focus on Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Nintendo has confirmed the existence of the Switch 2, its backward compatibility with the original Switch, and account transfer capabilities. However, details remain scarce, with current information stemming primarily from leaks describing a more powerful, larger iteration of the original console.

While future Pokémon titles will undoubtedly grace the Switch 2, insider Jeff Grubb indicates the upcoming Presents will highlight games currently in development for the original Switch—all of which will be playable on the new console due to backward compatibility.

No Switch 2 Pokémon News Expected

The Pokémon Presents will almost certainly showcase updates on ongoing live-service titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Further news on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, slated for release this year on the original Switch, is also anticipated. While a brief teaser revealed the Lumiose City setting, returning Pokémon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains unknown. Rumors also suggest another mainline Pokémon game is in the works for this year.

Speculation points towards potential Pokémon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment, both supposedly destined for the original Switch. If these leaks prove accurate, the first Switch 2-exclusive mainline Pokémon games will likely be Generation 10 titles.

This aligns with the Pokémon franchise's historical pattern of prioritizing established hardware with larger user bases. Similar to the release of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS instead of the 3DS, history may repeat itself. However, until official confirmation, fans will need to tune into the February 27th Pokémon Presents for definitive answers.
