Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has made it clear that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive into this article to explore the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the competitive arena and understand the potential reasons behind this decision.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that there are currently no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into its competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, mentioned that while they are always exploring new titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.

Brown humorously referenced the April Fool's parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament, saying "Pokemon Sleep is out there too." He then clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its early stages, having released only two sets in the past four months. This infancy could be a contributing factor.

Although the app includes competitive features available since its launch, the community has called for better balance adjustments due to ongoing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, designed with a beginner-friendly approach rather than a competitive focus.

Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to host a variety of events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
