Avowed, the highly anticipated RPG, expands upon the rich fantasy world of Eora, first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series. While Eora boasts a diverse range of races, Avowed's character creator offers a more curated selection. Let's explore the playable races available at launch.
Humans (Folk)
Humans, or Folk as they're known in-game, are the most common race in Avowed and are prominently featured in the character creator. As part of the broader Kith classification, encompassing various sentient species, Humans offer extensive customization options. Expect a wide variety of presets, detailed facial features, skin tone sliders, and diverse hairstyles, providing ample choices for players to create a truly personalized character.
Elves
Elves are another playable race in Avowed. Visually similar to humans, they are distinguished by subtly different facial structures and, of course, their characteristic long, pointed ears.
Godlikes
While all Envoys in the game's narrative are Godlikes, players can choose to incorporate or omit Godlike features in their character creation. This race offers unique hair and facial options, ranging from subtle enhancements to more striking, surreal appearances. At launch, 14 distinct Godlike facial features and four hairstyles are available, regardless of chosen race or body type.
Character Customization: Gender and Body Type
Avowed provides four body types: two masculine and two feminine. These options are available for both Humans and Elves. Players can also select from two masculine and two feminine voice options. Furthermore, you can choose a character identifier (he/him, she/her, or they/them) which impacts the pronouns used in the game.
Unplayable Races
While Avowed showcases a diverse range of NPCs from various Kith races, including Dwarves, the semi-aquatic Aumaua, and the diminutive, hairy Orlans, these races are currently unavailable for player character creation. However, Obsidian Entertainment may introduce additional races through future updates or DLC.
