Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play, not only highlighted impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer offered a glimpse into Musashi's unparalleled swordsmanship, alongside a hint of his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a Kyoto overrun by Malic, a malevolent force summoning hellish entities into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
