Official: Robert Pattinson Confirms Not Portraying DCU Batman

Author : Emery Feb 25,2025

James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), definitively excluding Robert Pattinson.

During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga." Gunn stated unequivocally, "It's certainly not the plan. No." Safran elaborated, "And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Earlier speculation regarding Pattinson's potential DCU-wide role stemmed from Reeves' ambiguous comments earlier this year. Reeves indicated a focus on his own saga, stating, "What the future brings? I can’t really tell you." However, he praised Gunn and Safran's collaborative approach.

Safran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' The Batman Part 2, emphasizing their support for his vision. While the script is still in progress, Safran described the early material as "very encouraging."

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. The director, Andy Muschietti, will review the script upon completion to determine its suitability. Further details on The Brave and the Bold are promised soon.

The Batman Part 2's delayed release (October 1, 2027) creates a significant gap between Pattinson's debut and the sequel. Safran confirmed a Batman film for October 2027, but offered no further specifics regarding The Brave and the Bold's release.

A brief Batman cameo in Creature Commandos Episode 6 showcased a familiar silhouette, intentionally vague per Gunn's comments to Rotten Tomatoes TV. This deliberate ambiguity served to establish Batman's pre-existing presence and renown within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story.

Gunn hinted at a future team-up between the DCU Batman and Superman, stating, "This is the DCU Batman… He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together.”
