The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, and it's expected to be in high demand. To ensure that genuine fans get their hands on this coveted console, Nintendo has introduced a pre-order system on the My Nintendo Store. If you're a fan eager to secure your Switch 2, here's what you need to know.
On the My Nintendo Store, you can register your interest in pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch 2 system and "select accessories." Once registered, you'll receive an invitation email when it's your turn to pre-order, which will be valid for 72 hours. However, to be eligible for this invitation, you must have a Nintendo Account with significant engagement on your current Switch.
According to the fine print on the site, "Invitation emails will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025." These invitations are non-transferable and will be sent to the email address linked to your Nintendo Account. Additionally, there's a one-per-account limit on the system and each accessory during the invitation period. You can choose between a base Nintendo Switch 2 or one bundled with Mario Kart World.
After placing your order, it will be shipped, and you'll receive an approximate shipping date at the time of purchase. Nintendo notes that "release-day delivery is not guaranteed due to processing and shipment times." These measures are designed to ensure that the Switch 2 goes to dedicated fans rather than being flipped for profit online.

Scalping has been a persistent issue with high-demand products like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Valve successfully implemented a queue system for the Steam Deck, linking purchases to Steam accounts and checking account creation dates. It's clear that Nintendo is taking similar steps with the My Nintendo Store to combat this problem.
While there will be other avenues to purchase the Switch 2, this pre-order system aims to give long-time Switch 1 owners a smoother path to securing their new console on launch day.
