Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now

Author : Lucas Mar 17,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to the circulating rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.

PlayA striking scene in the reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to what appear to be flat-bottomed connectors. The Joy-Cons then smoothly glide across the surface, mimicking mouse movement on a mousepad. Closer inspection reveals a possible slider pad on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those found in computer mice, enabling this functionality. However, Nintendo has yet to officially confirm this feature or its implications. Fans envision applications in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard-centric games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative uses within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain excitingly open-ended.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding potential mouse support and the function of a new Joy-Con button, several details about the Switch 2 are confirmed. Officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, its 2025 release date is set, and a new Mario Kart title is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
