Genki at CES 2025: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, renowned for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing intriguing details about Nintendo's next-generation console. Based on a black market acquisition, the mockup accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor reminiscent of the Steam Deck.

Key features observed include seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining that a button on each Joy-Con releases a pin, disengaging the magnetic connection. Despite the magnetic mechanism, the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.

More than Meets the Eye: Optical Sensors and Dock Compatibility

Further examination revealed optical sensors integrated into the Joy-Con mounting channels. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images.

While the Switch 2's increased size might suggest incompatibility with the existing Switch dock, Tsai confirmed it can physically fit. However, structural differences prevent actual use with the older dock. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains unknown.
