Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, ending the Warner Bros. platform fighter on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post on their website. Launched May 28, 2024, MultiVersus Season 5 begins February 4th and runs until its May 2025 conclusion. Online play will cease at that time, though offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to players and supporters, stating, “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions are no longer available, but Gleamium and character tokens can be used for in-game content until May 30th. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

MultiVersus’ closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery. A November financial call revealed the game significantly underperformed expectations, resulting in a roughly $100 million writedown for the games sector, adding to a $300 million total after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Variety also recently reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad departed the company following a challenging 2024.

“We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
