Medabot Survivors: Bullet-Hell Action for Medabots Fans, but Only in Japan (for now)
Medabot Survivors, a new bullet-hell action game based on the popular robot role-playing franchise, is set to launch in Japan on February 10th for iOS and Android. For those unfamiliar, Medabots enjoyed a surge in popularity following Pokémon's success, though it never achieved the same global recognition as other franchises like Digimon.
However, Medabots maintains a strong following in Japan, making this Survivors-style game a natural progression for the franchise. Unfortunately, the game's initial release is exclusive to Japan. As noted by Gematsu, this is a common occurrence; many successful Japanese games never see a Western release.
The Expanding "Survivors" Genre
While often associated with Vampire Survivors, the "Survivors" genre has a longer history. The release of Medabot Survivors highlights the genre's growing global popularity. Many excellent games released in Japan remain unavailable internationally, but the success of Medabot Survivors could potentially change that. If the game proves popular, a Western release might be on the horizon.
