Today's Mario Kart World Direct provided exciting new insights into the game's innovative Free Roam mode, detailing its expansive multiplayer capabilities and the activities players can enjoy while exploring Mario Kart World's expansive environment.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive view of what Free Roam mode truly offers. This new feature allows players to freely explore the vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map of Mario Kart World. Unlike previous Mario Kart titles where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open-world setting, enabling players to drive from one track to another in specific game modes and enjoy the areas in between. When you're not engaged in racing, Free Roam mode transforms into an adventure playground. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the benefits of collecting them are still a mystery. You'll also find P-Switches scattered throughout, which, when activated, trigger mini-challenges like gathering blue coins.
Moreover, Free Roam mode introduces a Photo Mode, allowing you to capture memorable moments of your racers in diverse poses and settings at any time. And the fun doesn't stop there—Free Roam is designed for social interaction. You can explore the world with friends, take photos together, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players on a single system through split-screen play, and up to eight players via local wireless play, with two players per system.
