Street Fighter 6, Capcom's hit fighting game, has seen a surge in popularity with the addition of Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. Released on December 31st, 2024, this marks the third fighter in the game's second season. By December 31st, 2024, Street Fighter 6 had already achieved impressive sales figures, exceeding 4.4 million copies sold. While some fans felt the game lacked frequent content updates, Mai Shiranui's arrival has proven a significant boost.
Her introduction dramatically impacted Street Fighter 6's player base. Steam's peak online player count soared to over 63,000 on her release day—a remarkable increase from the previous peak of 24-27,000 and the best result since May 2024.
Available to Battle Pass holders, Mai Shiranui offers more than just combat. In World Tour mode, players can cultivate relationships with her, learn her unique moves, and then put their skills to the test in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, has also been added.
The excitement doesn't stop there. Battle Hub temporarily features Professor Woshige, a celebrated fighting game developer, as a guest character until March 10th. Further enhancing the update, new Master League ranks and rewards have been introduced.
Capcom showcased Mai Shiranui's impressive fighting techniques in a dedicated trailer.
