Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Reaches Impressive Sales Milestone

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Resurgence: Over 200,000 Copies Sold!

Following its release late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player demand. Despite initial technical hiccups and some controversy, the game's sales figures point to a successful relaunch of this cult classic action title.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), the RePOP version was handled by Dragami Games. This remaster brought significant visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements to the original hack-and-slash gameplay, where players wield a chainsaw as a cheerleader battling zombies.

Reaching the 200,000 sales milestone across current and last-gen consoles, plus PC, was recently announced by Dragami Games via Twitter. This success comes several months after the September 2024 launch.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Triumph: A Celebration of Sales Success

The game casts players as Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Juliet's chainsaw-fueled combat against hordes of zombies and unique bosses provides a thrilling experience reminiscent of Bayonetta and other iconic third-person action games.

While the RePOP version has achieved significant success, the original PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release in 2012 boasted even higher sales, surpassing one million units. This initial success was likely fueled by the unique collaboration between acclaimed game designer Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's compelling narrative.

Whether this renewed success for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will lead to additional content or even a sequel remains to be seen. However, it's a positive indicator for the potential of remasters for more specialized games. This trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
