Author : Ellie Feb 12,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror remake Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter in the Labyrinth saga, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This sequel replaces a previously announced project with director Scott Derrickson, which had stalled since 2023. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a troupe of Jim Henson's iconic puppets.

Eggers' involvement in Labyrinth isn't his only upcoming project. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a reimagining of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count lead to terrifying vampiric consequences. Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
