Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo is set to make a memorable debut in the upcoming DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the planet Czarnia, where he is the last survivor, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is excited to join the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with this role. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character and has always desired to portray him, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans about what to expect from Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He hinted at a brief but impactful appearance, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike's really cool." When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow had commenced, with Milly Alcock, known from House of the Dragon, starring as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The film, heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, follows a standalone story about an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts portrays Krem, while Eve Ridley plays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DCU lineup, following James Gunn's Superman, set to hit theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for release in September 2026.
