Godzilla, the iconic monster known for his destructive rampages in Tokyo, is now setting his sights on the United States in the new series of standalone specials from IDW Publishing and Toho, titled "Godzilla vs. America." The series kicked off with "Godzilla vs. Chicago #1" and continues its thrilling journey with "Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1," set to release in April. This issue features four captivating stories about Godzilla's attack on the City of Angels, crafted by a talented team including Gabriel Hardman, J. Gonzo, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux.

The release of "Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1" comes at a sensitive time, as Los Angeles and its surrounding areas are grappling with the aftermath of devastating wildfires. Although the comic has been in development for nearly a year, IDW acknowledges the unfortunate timing and has decided to donate all proceeds from the sales of this issue to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc). This initiative aims to support bookstores and comic shops affected by the fires, helping them recover and rebuild.

In a heartfelt letter to retailers and readers, IDW expressed their commitment to the community and their understanding of the need for sensitivity during challenging times. They emphasized that the "Godzilla" series often explores themes related to human-induced and natural tragedies, and their intention is not to capitalize on recent events but to reflect on the human condition. The letter also highlighted the involvement of Los Angeles-based creators in the anthology and the planned release date of April 2025.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño, a native of Los Angeles, shared his excitement about working on a comic that showcases the city's talent. "We’ve got Godzilla fighting giant lowrider mechs, stomping through theme parks, and even a pamphlet on the city’s subway system (yes, LA does have a subway system)! The common theme? Angelenos coming together to fight back against a force of nature," Niño told IGN. He also highlighted the significance of the comic's release in light of the city's recent challenges and the support it provides to the Binc Foundation's wildfire relief efforts.

"Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1" is scheduled for release on April 30, 2025, with a final order cutoff date of March 24. For more insights into upcoming comic book releases, be sure to explore what Marvel and DC have in store for 2025.
