Harrison Ford Joins Marvel for 'Indiana Jones 5' Flop Redemption

Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," casually remarking, "s**t happens." He attributes his subsequent move to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a simple desire for a "good time."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Star Wars icon explained that despite his personal belief in the potential for another Indiana Jones story, the fifth film's critical drubbing and estimated $100 million loss don't bother him. He elaborated on his motivation for returning to the role: "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life he'd lived, I wanted one more chance to pick him up, dust him off, and put him back out there, a bit diminished, to see what happened," Ford stated. "I'm still happy I made that movie."

This cinematic setback hasn't deterred Ford from embracing another iconic franchise. He's joined the MCU in "Captain America: Brave New World," stepping into the shoes of the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, a character poised for a significant expansion as the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his MCU involvement predated knowledge of this transformation. He hadn't even seen a script for "Brave New World" before signing on, driven purely by the prospect of enjoyment. "Why not? I'd seen enough Marvel films to know that actors I admired were having a good time," Ford explained. "I didn't really know I'd turn into the Red Hulk. It's like life; you only get so far with the instructions before the last page goes missing."

"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for release on February 14th, is shaping up to be one of the shorter MCU entries. It marks Anthony Mackie's debut as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, and promises a deep dive into lesser-known Marvel characters, including the long-awaited introduction of The Leader, a character teased in the second MCU film, "The Incredible Hulk."
