Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Fallout 76's latest update, "The Ghoul Within," is now live, allowing players to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. Announced on Bethesda's website on March 18, this season introduces a range of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options for players to customize their C.A.M.P.

In this update, players can undergo Ghoulification through the "Leap of Faith" questline. This questline leads players to a new area in the Savage Divide, where they encounter unique characters that aid in their transformation into Ghouls. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst stats with a Feral meter. Depending on its level, it offers various boosts. However, if the meter drops to 0%, players experience significant gameplay changes: "+150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and literally makes them glow. This ability not only boosts maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effects of Gherks.

Players can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these attributes are no longer relevant.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland as a Ghoul becomes easier with the new Gherks and abilities. However, factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may react hostilely towards Ghouls, potentially blocking certain questlines.

To circumvent this, players can use disguises provided by a new NPC named Jaye, enabling interaction with previously inaccessible content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Note that this is a one-time change; players wishing to become Ghouls again must purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
