F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Arrive on Switch Online

The F-Zero series, which debuted in Japan over three decades ago in 1990, has long been celebrated for its innovative gameplay and technological advancements. These games have not only inspired other racing franchises, such as SEGA's "Daytona USA," but have also pushed the limits of gaming technology on consoles like the SNES, offering some of the fastest racing experiences of their time.
Much like the iconic Mario Kart series, F-Zero games challenge players to race to the finish line while navigating treacherous track obstacles and engaging in intense battles with other racers' vehicles, known as "F-Zero machines." The series' protagonist, Captain Falcon, has even become a staple in the Super Smash Bros. lineup, showcasing the franchise's enduring popularity.
F-Zero: GP Legend first hit the Japanese market in 2003, with a Western release following in 2004. On the other hand, F-Zero Climax, which launched in Japan in 2004, remained a region-exclusive title until now. It was the last entry in the F-Zero series for 19 years until the release of the racing MMO F-Zero 99 last year. In an interview, F-Zero game designer Takaya Imamura noted that the dominance of Mario Kart, Nintendo's most popular racing franchise, contributed to the series' long hiatus.
With the October 2024 Game Update for the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, subscribers can dive into the action-packed worlds of F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend.
