Here's the official description of what players can expect:
In Civilization 7 - VR, the world of Civilization comes to life in an unprecedented way. The game's map unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom from a bird's-eye view to closely inspect the intricate details of buildings and units, much like a living tabletop game. Engage directly with iconic world leaders around the Command Table, witnessing their reactions as you navigate alliances or wage war through the Ages.
Civilization 7 - VR offers both immersive virtual reality and mixed reality modes, with seamless switching between the two. In virtual reality, players find themselves in an ornate museum overlooking a personalized vista based on their chosen leader. In mixed reality, the Command Table integrates into the player's real-world environment. The Archives, a special room in your virtual museum, showcases detailed dioramas of your gameplay achievements, viewable in both modes. Beyond solo play, Civilization 7 - VR supports online multiplayer, where up to four players on Meta Quest 3 and 3S can compete to rule the world.
While Civilization 7 is already available on PC and consoles for those who opted for advanced access, the community has been vocal on Steam, pointing out issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and missing features that fans have come to expect. Firaxis has taken note of this feedback and committed to enhancing the UI, introducing team-based multiplayer options, and expanding the variety of map types, among other improvements.
In an interview with IGN before the release of the third quarter financial results, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the mixed reviews for Civilization 7. He expressed confidence that the "legacy Civ audience" would grow to appreciate the game with continued play and described its early performance as "very encouraging."
