Mastering Mounts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Guide to Horses

Dynasty Warriors: Origins lacks a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. However, traversing large battlefields quickly to rescue officers requires a faster method. Enter your trusty steed! This guide covers acquiring, leveling up, and switching horses.

Obtaining Your First Horse

Your initial mount is a free gift! After completing Chapter 1's "Test of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant appears northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp. He's easily spotted next to his horse. Simply speak to him to receive your first horse, automatically equipped. Summon your horse by pressing the left joystick (console) or the 'V' key (keyboard).

Leveling Up Your Horse

Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions (marked with a red diamond and soldier icon), even if you don't actively ride it. The XP earned depends on battle duration and your horse usage (riding and charging). Skirmishes do not award horse XP. Leveling up unlocks unique buffs for each horse.

Switching Horses

While your first horse is automatically equipped, the Battle Preparation menu (the last option on the left) allows you to switch horses. Each horse boasts unique advantages; some are inherently faster or more powerful. Acquiring new horses involves maximizing the peace level of a region. A new horse awaits as a reward at a nearby waypoint once this is achieved.
