In *Avowed*, you have the option to choose from five distinct Backgrounds. Each Background offers unique dialogue options and comes with a starting weapon, yet remains versatile enough to utilize all equipment and abilities within the game. The five Backgrounds available are Arcane Scholar, Court Augur, Noble Scion, Vanguard Scout, and War Hero. Here’s a breakdown of their narrative roles:
Arcane Scholar: Embark on your journey with an academic past as an Arcane Scholar. Graduates from Bragganhyl Academy, your character authored a treatise on soul lineages that shook the foundations of local nobility, leading to your arrest. However, the emperor saw potential in your knowledge of the occult, legal precedent, historical observation, and poetry, recruiting you into the imperial court archives.
Court Augur: A tragic past marks the Court Augur, who fled their village after being ostracized for their mystical visions following crop failures. Seeking refuge in Highcrown, the emperor recognized your spiritual connection and appointed you as his personal mystic. Court Augurs are deeply in tune with magic and the gods, making them an ideal choice for wizard role-players and those who wish to connect with Giatta as a companion.
Noble Scion: Born into wealth and influence but marred by family scandal, the Noble Scion sought the emperor's mercy after their world crumbled. As a loyal ally to the empire, this Background is perfect for players who wish to uphold the empire's interests throughout the Living Lands.
Vanguard Scout: Spared from execution by the empire, the Vanguard Scout thrives in the wilderness, far from the complexities of city life and politics.
