Catch and Evolve: Uncover Secrets of Shadowy Deino in Pokémon

Author : Matthew Feb 19,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize the powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, boasts impressive stats and is a valuable addition to any team. However, its evolutionary line (Deino and Zweilous) is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Obtaining Deino:

Deino and its evolution, Zweilous, are found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet:

  • Alfornada Cavern: Located southwest Paldea; requires Koraidon's high jump ability. Expect levels 35-40.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Situated between Medali and Zapapico. Expect levels 35-40.
  • Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two): Easier to access than the cavern and passage.

Additionally, Deino and Zweilous can be obtained from 3-star and 4-star Tera Raids, respectively (unlocking after obtaining 3 gym badges). These Raids offer a chance for Pokémon with differing Tera Types and potentially Hidden Abilities. Hydreigon itself appears in 5/6-star Tera Raids.

Transferring Deino to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, players of Violet must utilize trading or Pokémon HOME to acquire it. Trading requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership and the Union Circle. Pokémon HOME allows transfers from Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Scarlet. The process involves moving Deino to your HOME Basic Box, then transferring it to your Pokémon Violet PC Box via the HOME app.

Evolution:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling, Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended), or Rare Candies to expedite the leveling process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon's base stat total is 600, with high Special Attack and Attack, and good Speed. A Timid (+Speed, -Attack) or Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) Nature is recommended.

  • Strengths: High offensive stats, versatile movepool (physical and special).
  • Weaknesses: 4x weakness to Fairy-type moves; also weak to Fighting, Bug, Dragon, and Ice.
  • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, and Dark.
  • Immunities: Ground and Psychic.

Terastallizing can mitigate the 4x Fairy weakness. Consider using a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon (via TM) to counter Fairy types. Other suggested moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse. Its movepool allows for both physical and special attacking builds, depending on player preference.

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Sp. Attack 125
Defense 90
Sp. Def 90
Speed 98
Total 600

Hydreigon's effectiveness against various types is as follows:

  • Super Effective Against: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
  • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
  • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
  • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

With strategic moveset choices and Terastallization, Hydreigon remains a formidable Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
