Mastering the Chatacabra: A Guide to Defeat and Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds
This amphibious adversary, the Chatacabra, is one of the first monsters you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn to effectively hunt this creature, whether you aim for a kill or capture.
Defeating the Chatacabra
- Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
- Resistances: None
- Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Chatacabra, a sizable frog-like monster, primarily utilizes close-range tongue attacks. It may also charge if you maintain distance. While any weapon is viable against it, its smaller size might render weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less effective due to their multi-hit attacks being optimized for larger targets.
Its attacks often involve its tongue, making frontal positioning risky. Besides its licking attack, it slams its front limbs into the ground, always preceded by a telltale rearing motion. The only significant attack when not directly in front is a head-raising maneuver followed by a sweeping tongue attack from behind.
The optimal strategy is to flank the Chatacabra, dodging or blocking its slam attacks. Exploiting its elemental weaknesses will significantly expedite the fight.
Capturing the Chatacabra
Monster capture in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern. The Chatacabra's inability to fly simplifies the process. You'll need a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, and two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, carrying one of each trap type and a full eight Tranquilizer Bombs is recommended for unforeseen circumstances.
Battle the Chatacabra until its mini-map icon displays a skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it, set your trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, deploy two Tranquilizer Bombs to subdue it, completing the capture.
