Conquer the Legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal moment in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, presents a significant challenge. This guide will help you overcome this difficult stage in Chapter 2, culminating in Dong Zhuo's defeat.
Initial Strategy:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-capture strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.
Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the enemy defenses.
Dealing with Lu Bu:
Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful in a one-on-one fight. Instead, eliminate enemy officers around the battlefield to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence severely drains.
Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base to defeat Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him. Liu Bei's forces will defend, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint; if Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo, otherwise Lu Bu will succeed and end the mission.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if necessary. Capture the northern and western bases. With three squads ready, attack Dong Zhuo's forces.
Dong Zhuo will employ two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to clear a path through the soldiers guarding them.
The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer. Engage the officer via the right-hand stairs, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. A duel with Diaochan, though challenging, simplifies the battle.
Once the Grand Tactics are thwarted, your forces should overwhelm Dong Zhuo's remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further aiding your assault. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
