Larian Studios, following the phenomenal success of Baldur's Gate 3, is now fully dedicated to its next project. While limited post-launch support for BG3 continues, including the upcoming Patch 8 with new features, the studio's primary focus has shifted.

Before the 2023 release of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios established itself as a CRPG leader with the Divinity: Original Sin series. This success earned them the Baldur's Gate license, surpassing expectations and achieving numerous Game of the Year awards. The game's popularity significantly boosted Larian's reputation, generating considerable anticipation for their next endeavor.

In a statement, Larian confirmed their complete concentration on the new title and announced a temporary media blackout to minimize distractions. While Patch 8 will introduce some additional features to Baldur's Gate 3, major development on the game is concluded.

The nature of Larian's next project remains undisclosed. While they opened a new studio in mid-2024 to support two ambitious RPGs, the current status of that plan is uncertain. Speculation ranges from Divinity: Original Sin 3 to a completely new IP. Details are expected to remain scarce for the foreseeable future.

The future of the Baldur's Gate franchise is also uncertain. Wizards of the Coast faces the challenge of finding a suitable developer to maintain the high standards set by Baldur's Gate 3. However, the possibility of familiar actors returning for future installments remains, offering a glimmer of continuity.
