Ananta Unveiled: Mugen Project Reborn with Epic Trailer

NetEase's upcoming open-world RPG, formerly known as Project Mugen, has been officially renamed Ananta. First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game has finally released a new trailer, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the teaser:

The reason behind the name change remains unannounced by the developers. However, "Ananta," meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirrors the original title's meaning, suggesting a thematic continuity. This is further supported by the game's Chinese title.

The rebranding has sparked mixed reactions within the gaming community, though relief prevails that the project continues. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, its lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players. Personally, Ananta's aesthetic is more appealing.

A surprising development is the deletion of all original Project Mugen social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server was retained and renamed. This unexpected move has left many gamers puzzled.

Ananta casts players as an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural threats. Notable characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
