Since Fields of Mistria entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods has been tantalizingly marked on the town map, yet remained inaccessible—until the March 2025 update. This guide reveals how to unlock this new area and locate Caldarus.
Unlocking the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
The Deep Woods unlock hinges on breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the obstructing vines. This requires a specific offering to the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar (Floor 60 of the mines): a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The gems and Rockroot are found between floors 50 and 59. Obtaining the scroll requires a unique task.
To get the Sealing Scroll, leave these items in the bin near Balor’s wagon: 10 Silver Ingots, 10 Rubies, 10 Sapphires, and 10 Emeralds. Afterward, speak with Balor; he'll deliver the scroll the next day. Once the offering is complete, the seal breaks.
However, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess warns you to flee before the scroll seals you within. As your health plummets, Caldarus appears, revealing his human form before retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover. He then grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell, crucial for clearing the Deep Woods entrance and other previously blocked areas.
Equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and use it at the entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods. This spell can unlock other areas as well.

Locating Caldarus
After unlocking the Deep Woods, Caldarus awaits within his temple, located north of the Eastern Road. You'll need Dragon’s Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map.
Enter the Deep Woods, clear the obstructing stump with your axe, and proceed north to the temple. Caldarus is inside.
For convenient travel, use the Dragon Statue on your farm to teleport directly to the Deep Woods (10 Essence). You can still interact with Caldarus’ statue.
