Cyber warfare is one of those things that sounds cool on paper, but rarely lives up to the expectation. After all, you'd think everyone is like Angelina Jolie in Hackers, smoothly infiltrating a network while casually chatting philosophy and looking at what people in the 90s thought was the peak of cool, not someone pretending to be a "password inspector". But if you've always wanted to live the dream, a cult-classic mobile release is shaping up to have a sequel as 868-Hack now has a crowdfunding campaign for its successor, 868-Back.

The best way to describe 868-Hack, and its sequel, is that it's one of those rare games that makes you feel like a hacker. Much like cult-classic PC puzzler Uplink, there's a fine art to making the programming - and dense information warfare - of hacking feel straightforward but challenging. But as we noted way back when it first released, 868-Hack offer delivered quite well on the premise.

As with the original 868-Hack, 868-Back lets you string together Progs to form complex strings of actions (like real-life programming). But this time around you'll have an even bigger world to explore, with the Progs remixed and reimagined, that's alongside new rewards, graphics, and sound.

Hack the planet

With its gritty art style and decidedly cyberpunk vision of the future, it's not hard to see the appeal in 868-Hack. And given how challenging it can be for developers, I don't think we feel at all conflicted about giving this crowdfunding campaign a boost. But of course, there's always a risk involved, and while it would be a shame, we can never guarantee there might not be some issues down the line.

Still, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we wish Michael Brough the best of luck in bringing 868-Hack, 868-Back!
